SPD (Shimano Pedaling Dynamics). This integrated shoe and pedal system provides the performance of a cycling shoe with a cleat, plus the ability to safely walk and dismount the bike. The SPD cleat system comes in two types. The standard SPD system is used for off-road, hiking, and general-purpose footwear. The SPD-SL system has been developed to provide a larger, tighter, and more stable shoe-pedal interface for the specific demands of road and performance cycling.
